HISTORY:
David Castro has been writing songs since age 10, and playing guitar since age 12. He began playing in front
of local crowds at age 15 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma where he has earned a loyal local following for his singer/songwriter style.
David co-founded the band The Shacks with his brother Justin Castro, and played steadily from 2004-2007 in Northeasern
Oklahoma sharing the stage with such acts as My-Tea-Kind, Randy Crouch, and Red Eye Gravy. In 2005, David played at
Rock Harvest, a 3 day music festival outside Tahlequah, Oklahoma, along with such artists as Shanti Groove and Billy Joe Winghead.
The Shacks won the 2006 Cherokeel Nation Battle of the Bands in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and performed at The Uncle Stoney's Memorial
Concert in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with such acts as The Red Dirt Rangers and Jason Boland.
David decided in 2008 to begin a solo career and has been steadily booked in Northeastern Oklahoma, the Oklahoma City/Norman
area, as well as Tulsa. He is backed by a band of talented musicians, and has gained respect of venues and audiences
alike for his versatility in both songwriting style, and band size and composition.
INFLUENCES:
John Lennon, Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, and acoustic acts including Dave Matthews, Jack Johnson, and
Ben Harper. Also Oklahoma-based bands such as My-Tea-Kind, Randy Crouch, Steve Pryor, Jason Boland, and Stoney Larue.
The band's base members are David Castro (guitar/vocals), Bill Proctor (lead guitar) Jacob Birdtail (bass), and Jason
Weiesnbach (drums/percussion). The band is also joined at times by artists Justin Castro (singer/songwriter), Jeff Gann
(bass), Bill Marler (harmonica) and has had such artists as Randy Crouch (fiddle) and Big Daddy (lead guitar) join in.
