Why a Bonehead?
Moviemaking is not a precise science and for an artist there are a plethora of choices in making one. Every moviemaker,
however, looks for perfect scripts, wants to acquire the perfect cast and direct the perfect actor, thus producing the perfect
movie.
Yet after 100 years of moviemaking and thousands of movies being made, NONE have turned out perfect.
WHY?
Because the point of movies isn't to find perfection, but to tell a visual story. That is why
we chose the bonehead as the 'perfect' or perhaps 'imperfect' award for those moviemakers who made the most of imperfection.
Each bonehead is unique. There is no two exactly alike and each has been deliberately flawed to guarantee imperfection.
WHY?
To remind the winners that perfection isn't necessary to make unforgettable, interesting and moving films. The
willingness to take the risk and the courage to see it through is all the perfection necessary.
Boneheads are individually handcrafted by Heidi Priddy of Witness Designs & Hidonia Films located in Tulsa, OK as
a labor of love exclusively for Bare Bones Film Festivals.
The Darkwood Bases are harvested from the 160 acre farm of Oscar & Shironbutterfly Ray. Each
tree is selected for it's beauty and it's flaws, with axe in hand, Oscar Ray chops, saws, sands and varnishes each one as
a labor of love for the independent film industry and the writers, directors, producers, editors, cast and crew that
work hard to bring their vision to the screen by any means necessary.
