stacytaylor.jpg

STACY TAYLOR, an accomplished actor, model and journalist, got her start in the entertainment industry at just four years old. A painfully shy child, her mother put her in dance, acting and modeling classes to try and build her self-confidence. It was on stage that Taylor realized her dream of being a performer. She did her first regional commercial at five and was modeling around the country by her early teens. She worked with designers such as Oscar de la Renta, Donna Karan and Carolina Herrera.

At 19, Taylor retired from modeling full-time to attain her Broadcast Journalism degree from the University of Oklahoma. She worked as a news anchor, health reporter and producer for four years. Always true to her craft, Taylor worked as a journalist, not because of a desire to be on local news, but, for a more diverse demo reel. The experience with ad-lib, hosting and teleprompters has been invaluable. She is best known as the morning anchor at KWTV News9. Once her contract with KWTV expired, she went back to what she knows and loves.

Since forming Stacy Taylor Broadcasting two years ago, Stacy has been in over 140 local, regional and national commercials and infomercials. She has been in five films, several industrial videos and is producer and host of Real Estate Oklahoma and Homes Oklahoma Style. She is also thrilled to be working as an assistant producer on a new pilot for a national television series.

Taylors diverse ethnic background allows her to play a variety of parts. She is Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw and Irish. She also speaks Spanish which adds to her diversity. Taylor has extensive dance training including tap, jazz, salsa, merengue, tango, cha cha, waltz, fox trot, East Coast swing, Hawaiian and Tahitian. She also plays the piano.

Taylor is based in Oklahoma City where she lives with her two dogs, a Rottweiler and Alaskan Husky. She is represented by Magna Talent. Taylors office, which she shares with Oklahoma Casting, is located on Northwest Expressway in Oklahoma City.

Cathy Coomer : A STORY OF FATE-The Making of A Movie Producer

My whole career in filmmaking, as short as it is, really came on by accident.  Rather, I should say fate.  My background is in television and promotion.  I got my B.A. in Communication in 1982 and several months after getting my degree, I had a full-time job at KOAM-TV in Pittsburg, KS/Joplin, MO as a reporter.  I found out, however, that I was much better behind the camera than in front of and within a few years, was trained to produce the news.  My timing was good; I actually got to work with Brian Williams, news anchor of MSNBC News.  He had come to this area after an invitation by KOAMs general manager and worked in the SE Kansas/SW Missouri market for a little over a year, but during that time, he assisted me in the training of becoming a news producer.  Within a short time, I was the 6 & 10pm news producer, which I ended up doing both at KOAM-TV and KY3 in Springfield, MO.  After returning from Springfield, I transferred to the production department and wrote and produced commercials for 3-4 years.  I ended my tenure at KOAM-TV after becoming the Promotions & Programming assistant and eventually as department manager.  I always said during my employment at KOAM-TV. I learned how to promote a news story, a 30-second commercial and eventually an entire TV station.  During the next few years, while still in my new management position, I decided, as if I wasnt busy enough, to go back to school and finish my Masters.  I had taken 15 hours almost 6 years ago but still had 15 or so more to go.  I took one class per semester and although it almost killed me, I graduated with an M.A. in Mass Communication with an emphasis in Public Relations in 1992.  It was also during that time that I came up with the slogan that I still use quite frequently today

I can do anything, as long as I know it is temporary.

In 1996, I left KOAM-TV and was hired at Pittsburg State University to work with the acting Director of Broadcasting and assist with the overall improvement of the universitys cable TV station (my first fate experiencethank god I finished my Masters).   Within a few months, the director left and I took over not only doing what I was initially hired to do but also teach his classes, run a broadcasting lab and oversee the taping of all PSU sporting events.  I held that position for several more years until I reapplied for the same position but as a tenure status.

I was re-hired and worked at PSU for 7 years until leaving this past May.  I worked very hard to not only improve the look of CAPS 13, but also assisted in establishing a sports broadcasting scholarship program, creating four new teaching curriculums which were added to the broadcasting sequence and maintaining 4 part-time positions for student lab assistants and 1 student engineer.

It was during that time that I met Peter Zhmutski.  He had graduated from Ft. Scott Community College and transferred to PSU in the Communication department.  One of my faculty members, Ann Andaloro, had taught Peter in a class and was very impressed with him.  She introduced me and I quickly saw what she was talking about.  He LIVED in the broadcasting labworking day and night on his video editing projects.  He loved creating and took it very seriously.  The following semesters, I had the opportunity to teach Peter in several of my classes.  He took everything he could get his hands on that enabled him to use the equipment; he truly thrived on becoming better and better.  Two summers ago, Peter asked me if I would be interested in working with him on a movie short that he was doing as part of a graduate student project as well as something he could enter in competitions.  I agreed mainly because it was something I had never done before and he was going to be implementing the green screen effect in one of his fight scenes (Fate experience #2).  My responsibilities began first as a producer and second in assisting him with recruiting extras, finding and setting up props, etc.  I also became the main videographer.  We worked very hard and within one and a half months, the project was complete.  I enjoyed working with Peter and because we spent so much time together, I became known as Peters promoter.  We were even approached to work with a non-profit organization in planning and scheduling a formal music night out during Pittsburgs Labor Day weekend or what it is referred to as Little Balkan Days.  The event was called Spend an evening with Peter Z and was highly promoted in the area.

It was during the final days before the concert, that I fell and tore my Achilles tendon and had to have surgery.  Even though the surgery went well, another accident occurred that would change my life forever (fate experience #3).

My pipes under my sink burst in the middle of the night and without thinking, I got my cast wet and within a few weeks, had developed a critical infection that almost caused me to lose my foot.  Two more surgeries followed and one skin graph that held me up for the rest of the year.  It was also during that time that Peter asked me to start reading a script that he was in the process of writing called Forever Brothers.  I would read 10-12 pages a night and became so interested in the characters and the storyline that I asked if I could help him further after my leg was well.  Sometime later I was told that he planned to produce this independent film and was working with two other major players, Darkwood Motion Pictures of Muskogee, OK and Dolphin Bay Films in Tulsa, OK.  As shooting began and plans to audition the actresses and schedule a weeklong shoot in Tulsa began, I became more and more involved.  I saw how I was quickly able to transfer what I knew in television and apply it to film and pre-production.  I have always been a very detailed person and this was going to come in handy.  Others apparently saw it too, because my role(s) in this movie quickly grew and before I knew it, I was a producer not only investing personally in the movie but also recruiting others to do so.  I approached Peter with the idea of assisting in Tulsa as part of a continuing education practice with the university and was approved to go. Beginning in Tulsa and continuing throughout the production of the movie, I wore a variety of hats serving as UPM, Script Supervisor, Props and Publicist.  The publicity part was the easiest for me; I already had many years experience in promoting.  It doesnt really matter what the object or project is as long as you know who your target audience is and how to reach them.  I focused on a number of things in getting the word out: localism, community tie-ins, actors background or heritage (a Russian making a movie about the Russian mafia) and the fact that all of our main actresses were from Texas.

Our weeklong shoot in Tulsa was incredible.  We probably only had 10-15 hours of sleep that entire week but what was created during that time was something special.  I learned so much that week that I knew, I would never be the same and I only wanted to do more and more in the film industry (fate experience #4).  My new friendships with the actors, the crew and my peers opened up so many doors for me and I learned, a lot through trial and error, what this world was like.

I still have so much more to learn and have dealt with a lot of situations that werent always pleasant, but I have survived and am very excited about seeing the premiere of our movie FOREVER BROTHERS.

Peter asked me to consider being a partner in his company, PZ Production, and working with him on future projects, whether they be his or not.  I agreed and am very pleased with our first real project.  As to what the future holds, I do not have a crystal ball but I can say, with all honesty, that this has been very demanding but also very meaningful.  I have tried all my life to finish everything I begin and this has been an incredible experience.  Peter is one of the most talented individuals I have ever met and I feel fortunate to have been a part of this project; the other actors and crew are also very gifted and I know I will always have a special place for each of them in my heart.  I would like to continue in some capacity but am not sure what the future holds.  I have been approached to get involved in another film being scheduled to shoot in Tulsa as well as another on the east coast.  I have also had discussions with two of my actors I worked with on FOREVER BROTHERS about other movies in the works.  After seven years, I chose to leave Pittsburg State University and follow a new dream.working in the film industry.  At 44 years of age, many would be afraid to risk giving up a great, well-paid position to branch out into the unknownbut I believe in fate and do not ignore the signs and something told me three times to consider these new options.  Since I left teaching in May, I have also had the opportunity to travel like never before.  For a Midwest girl who has never left the country before, in just 3 short months, I had the opportunity to travel to London, England; Moscow; Almaty, Kazakhstan and Los Angeles, CA all because of FOREVER BROTHERS.

I believe in dreams and am not afraid to take risks.  I have sold my house, moved out of town and am now working in marketing for a local company while the movie is completed.  What happens next?  STAY TUNED.but be assured, whatever road I choose, I am going to have a great story to tell about it.
